NOTE: Study Away anticipates that Academic Year 2018/19 college scholarships will be fully funded. However, MSU administrators will make funding decisions in late spring or early summer. Study Away encourages students to complete the simple scholarship application prior to the March 1 deadline so that awards can be confirmed as scholarship funds are made available. Applicants will be notified by mid-April of their scholarship decision. Students participating in Summer Long Term programs during Summer 2019 and students participating in Short Term Faculty Directed Programs with the Registrar's term listed as "Summer" are eligible to apply.

Program Description:
The College of Arts and Letters (COAL) at Missouri State University is pleased to announce its 2018-2019 Study Away Scholarships. A scholarship fund has been established by MSU’s President, International Programs, and the College of Arts and Letters. Students may use awards to help cover expenses directly related to study away education, including transportation to and within the host country, lodging, tuition and supplies. 


Scholarships are need- and merit-based. Students are eligible to apply for the COAL Study Away Scholarship if they meet all of the following criteria:
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • You are enrolled in an approved Study Away program (year-long, semester, summer, or short-term) and meet the eligibility requirements of Study Away and your specific program
  • You complete the entire online application, including a 200-500 word essay by the application deadline
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria (preference will be given in the following order):
  • Declared COAL majors (Undergraduate then Graduate)
  • Declared COAL minors participating in a faculty directed program
  • Students from other colleges who choose a COAL faculty directed program
All required components of your application must be complete and submitted by the deadline. NO EXCEPTIONS.
